Postdoctoral Opportunities
At this time we do not have any postdoctoral openings. Please check back for future opportunities.
PhD Position – Fall 2026 Entry
We are actively interviewing for a PhD student to join our laboratory for Fall 2026.
Masters (MSc) Students
We welcome applications from highly motivated students.
Undergraduate Opportunities
Undergraduate students are always welcome to apply and may also participate via the University at Buffalo’s Experiential Learning Network: ELN – UB.
Collaboration Opportunities
- Work with researchers at Argonne National Laboratory and industry partners such as NVIDIA.
- Access state-of-the-art computing resources and AI accelerators at the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility and Empire AI.
Desired Skills
Interest and Adaptability
A strong interest in statistical mechanics and interdisciplinary computational modeling. Prior experience in computational modelling is not required — enthusiasm for learning is what matters most.
Programming
Proficiency in Python, with experience in scientific libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas.
Machine Learning Frameworks
Familiarity with JAX or PyTorch is preferred. Experience with Equinox/JAX implementations is a bonus.
Computational Chemistry
While experience in density functional theory (DFT) calculations, statistical mechanics, molecular simulations, or chemical physics is highly desirable, it is not mandatory for students eager to learn — just as I transitioned into this field from a mechanical engineering background.
Preferred Background
We encourage students with degrees in mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields to apply. Experience in deep learning is desirable but not required.
What We Look For
We value curiosity, passion for interdisciplinary research, and strong problem-solving skills. If you are excited to tackle challenging problems in computational modelling, we want to hear from you!
How to Apply
Prospective graduate students (and UB undergraduates) interested in joining our group should email Dr. Ganesh Sivaraman with the subject line:
“Prospective Student – [Your Name]”
Please attach:
- Your CV
- Your transcript (unofficial is fine)
In your email, include a brief summary of your research interests and explain alignment to our research thurst.
